Renting a boat is much more complicated for both parties than renting an apartment, for example. That is why you will not find on the site any precise rental fee for Malucat.
Rates
We don’t set specific fees for rental of our Catamaran. With a set fee, you might be paying for features that you don’t even need, thats why we offer a variable rate, depending on a number of factors. Rental fees on the Catamaran range from $5000 to $9000 (€3300 to €6000) per week, depending on the following:
Season
High, mid or low season. High rental season is typically from December to April, with the low season being between September to November.
Number of People
The catamaran sleeps from 2 to 8 people.
Number of Days
Professional charter companies usually impose a weekly basis for your holidays. We do not impose such a rigid obligation. You can rent for 3 days, 17 days or 6 months if you wish, we will give you a quote in accordance.
Skipper
We strongly recommend having a skipper on-board during your holiday on Malucat. Nick has lived in Antigua and worked in the tourism business for 20 years, he knows all the nicest places, all the dangerous spots – reefs and sand banks – like no one and will make your holiday much more pleasant. His skills are far beyond just manoeuvring the boat. To help you make this decision, we have made the additional cost of the skipper as reasonable as possible, in fact lower than the true cost.
Additional Equipment
You way need fishing gear, snorkelling/diving equipment, a canoe, a portable VHF, bicycles. We can provide most of what you ask.
Long Term Rental
You could rent our Catamaran for your sabbatical year.
Renting a boat long term as opposed to buying a boat makes your dream trip more accessible. Normally, a long term trip would entail the purchase of a new boat, after which the boat needs to be re-sold at the end of your sabbatical. However, the cost of such a process and the incertitude of resale often discourages you.
Our boat, purchased in Sept 2008 for €420,000 could now be sold for €360,000 – a loss of approximately €60,000 (15% after one year). That is the true cost of the trip had we wanted to sell our boat immediately after. However, we’ll probably sail again… when the children have grown up. So the idea of renting long term has advantages for both parties.
- For us:
- – We keep the boat
- – We only have one tenant over a long period, which probably means less problems than those with numerous rentals on a weekly basis
- For you:
- – A cost of €50,000 for a sabbatical year as opposed to a cost of €60,000 if purchase a new boat
- – No resale worries
- – A boat equipped for a round the world trip and her teething problems are resolved
Co-ownership
This is something which we are willing to do. In the future, we plan on only sailing 2-3 months per year.
The advantages of co-owning a catamaran are that the costs are shared, but it also enables you to discover different parts of the world year after year.
If, like us, you’re planning to sail over several years, why not consider the co-ownership of our catamaran?
